A Dog Walking Cleanup Solution
Introduction
Cleaning up after a pet can be a messy ordeal. There are many products out there for picking up after your dog from scoopers to getting up close with the tried and true doggy bag. My client came to me with an idea to create a sleek mess free solution to and tasked me with bring it to life.
Ideation
This project was started by another designer to a rough working model and I needed to push the design further to full prototype. My client was looking for a tool that was as hands off as possible when handing the waste as well as compact and able to be useful for those late night walks.
Sketching and Rough Modeling
The main features that my client was looking for were, a tacky ring based bag holster that would illuminate for night walks and have a clip to hold the used bags until disposal. Another being a telescoping comfortable handle that could be hung up.
Testing other projects and patent research was imperative to getting a final design that didn’t overlap with others, but also use any cues that worked well such as materials and build methodology.
Product Finalization
Once I was done with sketching and initial testing with the working model I jumped into Solidworks to work towards a final design. The client had given feedback along the way to feel comfortable with a getting finished look. Throughout the modeling process there were many tweaks to get the right sizing and ergonomics of the parts that were tested from 3D printed parts.
The client was happy with the end product and thought it would be an elegant product that would stand out when customers were looking for a dog pickup solution in stores.
These 3D models were also at the point to test out different ways to get a tacky, but not too sticky top surface so that the bag when full would still adhere to the ring when in use but would be easy to remove by little touch effort or shaking it off when it was time to dispose.
